Adirondack Rock Climbing

Classic exposed climbing in the majestic Adirondack High Peaks region
(This is not your indoor climbing wall!!)

This program is a true outdoor climbing experience and is geared to challenge all ability and skill levels with climbs rated from 5.4-5.10. Based on the interests of the participants the program may include rigorous and exposed rock climbs, long and exposed rappels, belay instruction, certain merit badge requirements, assessing safe climbing areas, route finding, belaying, protective gear placement, and climbing ethics.

No previous climbing experience is necessary.

A few of the Climbing Areas to be used are below.  All locations are near Lake Placid / Keene Valley:
The Beer Walls- One of the most popular climbing destinations in the Adirondacks due to the distance from the road and an amazing collection of classic climbs.
Owls Head- A backcountry summit cliff offering spectacular views of the surrounding larger mountains. Fall foliage s particularly magnificent at this location.
Bark-eater - One of the more remote climbing areas offering great crack climbing nestled amongst large boulders and an Adirondack stream.
Jewels and Gems- A small roadside cliff great for beginning instruction with some crack climbing and some face climbing.

Program dates:
Sept 26-28 and Oct 3-5.

Minimum 10 participants, maximum 12 (a group can be made up of members from multiple Scouting units).  Participants must be age 13 or over.

$120 per person (no cost for adult leaders not climbing but maximum number of persons at the climb site is 15, including Summit Base staff)

The group would camp at the ADK Loj wilderness camping sites (group's preference and cost).  The group would be responsible for all meals; backpacking style is recommended.  There are numerous restaurants in nearby Lake Placid which can serve as dinner locations.   All camping gear would also be the group's responsibility.  Summit Base would provide climbing equipment.

Arrive at the camp Friday evening, climb a full day on Saturday and a half day on Sunday.
In the case of wet weather day or overnight hikes into the High Peaks is possible.
