ScoutReach

The Boy Scouts of America ScoutReach Program helps ensure all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background. Our biggest asset in urban neighborhoods is a well-defined program based on values, learning by doing, fun, and positive role models.

In 2017, the Westchester-Putnam Council has begun focusing the ScoutReach Program in three key geographic areas; White Plains, Yonkers, and Peekskill. Currently in White Plains, there are three afterschool programs, one ScoutReach Pack, one ScoutReach Troop, and one ScoutReach Crew. In Yonkers there are two afterschool programs and five lunch programs. Finally, in Peekskill there is one ScoutReach Pack, two lunch programs, and three afterschool programs. A full-time Professional ScoutReach Executive along with four part-time program aides keep all these units/programs active.

Our ScoutReach Executive is building partnerships, expanding program resources, and encouraging Scouts to attend summer camp. In the summer of 2018, 47 ScoutReach Scouts were able to attend camp by receiving a campership. A campership is a camping scholarship that is awarded to a Scout in financial need. Donors throughout the year can donate to the campership campaign to help send Scouts to camp. A Scout that attends summer camp and has a solid program throughout the year is more likely to stay in the program. Only with community support can Westchester-Putnam Council fulfill its ScoutReach mission to deliver the highest-quality, value-based youth program to any youth, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background.
