Trail to Eagle

The Westchester-Putnam Council, Boy Scouts of America is proud to sponsor the 2019 Trail to Eagle Course.  This specialty course will provide an opportunity for Scouts to earn 5 merit badges over a 5 month period; taught by adult volunteer professionals. 2019 TTE Application

Mission Statement

Provide a structured for success course that motivates and educates Scouts on what earning the Eagle Scout rank means and the commitments needed to get there  while earning Eagle Merit badges guided by the best Merit Badge counselors in our council.

All Merit Badge work will follow the BSA National program and will not divert from the BSA Aims and Goals.

 To qualify for this program a Scout must:

  • Be 14 years or older, attained the rank of Star Scout
  • Attended Summer Camp within the last 3 years
  • Have the attitude, respect and spirit of an Eagle Scout candidate
  • Have Scout Master approval

  • Parents should sign their scout up through the online registration system.
  • Scout will be mailed an application to be returned to the course director.
  • Course director evaluates and verifies applications.
  • Accepted applicants are given link to payment process.
  • Applicants are NOT enrolled in course until approved by course director and paid in full. Turning in an application does not constitute acceptance into the course. 

Additional topics to assist the scout on his Trail to Eagle will be covered during the sessions:

  • What is an Eagle Scout?
  • Planning Merit Badges along the Trail to Eagle
  • What is a good Service Project?
  • How to plan a Service Project 
  • US Flag Etiquette

All aspects of this course will follow the Merit Badge process (no short cuts),  and is approved by the WPC Council Advancement Committee.  This course provides a structured environment for success.  Each scout will be assigned a MB counselor in which they will have contact with through MB completion.  

The Merit Badges being offered are effort intensive and will include activities that occur at home in-between sessions. Transportation will be provided to and from off-site TTE Merit Badge activities.  
This course will be limited to 30 scouts to ensure a low ratio of Scout to Merit Badge Counselor sessions.  The cost for the course is $325 which includes materials, food, camping fees and a Trail to Eagle item.

Select 4 MBs from: Citizenship Community; Citizenship Nation; Citizenship World; Family Life; Communications; Personal Management; Personal Fitness, Cooking(counts as 2).



  • Parent meeting location – White Plains HS
  • Weekends at Durland Scout Reservation, Putnam Valley, NY
  • Cabins as classrooms
  • Scouts camp at tent site
  • All meals are prepared for Scouts to allow focus on their work
  • Utilize as much of Leave No Trace practices as possible
  • Scouts participate in Scouts Own Service on Sunday, and Grace before each meal

Concepts for Multi-session

  • Course will have the ‘best of the best’ Merit Badge counselors in  our council
  • Merit Badge Counselors will run their ‘own’ program using TTE for logistics and structure
  • The course will run over a five month period: Spring, Half day - Sat; June, one weekend – Fri eve, Sat, Sun; August, one weekend – Thur eve, Fri, Sat, Sun
  • Scouts rotate between sessions and meet with every MB counselor each day of camp; time is planned for extra support and sessions with MB counselor as needed
  • Limited course enrollment to ensure small group MB sessions with the MB counselor(3-6 Scouts)

This is NOT a required course ; it is optional for Scouts that would benefit from this approach.
