Venturing & Sea Scout Leader Training

Every Scout deserves a trained leader.

Required training courses for Venturing & Sea Scout leaders vary depending on your position. All adult volunteers are encouraged to take additional training courses to become familiar with the roles and responsibilities of each position in the crew.

1.All adult volunteers must complete Venturing Youth Protection TrainingExternal Link specific to the Venturing and Sea Scouting programs in order to register.

It is also recommended new Venturing leaders they watch the Venturing Crew Officers OrientationExternal Link video online.

2.Next, Venturing and Sea Scout leaders take Position-Specific (Role-Based) Courses to learn details on fulfilling their positions. More information can be found on Scouting.orgExternal Link.

3.In order to be considered fully trained, Venturing & Sea Scout leaders must take Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (ITOLS) and you can find upcoming classes here.

Sea Scout leaders must also complete the online Sea Scout Adult Leader Fast Start TrainingExternal Link module.

4.Leaders need to constantly improve their outdoor and leadership skills. Supplemental training provides many opportunities for leaders to hone and add to their skill set. And courses can be found at the Council Service Center in Hawthorne or online at Scouting.org/TrainingExternal Link. Leaders looking for top-notch supplemental training should consider Wood BadgeExternal Link and/or Powder HornExternal Link, the ultimate in leadership and high adventure training.
