The Basic Leader Training comprises two parts: New Leader Essentials
for all unit-level leaders and Leader Specific training, which is based on
the leader's unit-level position.
New Leader Essentials
New leaders in Cub Scouting, Boy
Scouting and Venturing take this course to gain the basics of the program.
(The basic training program is most effective when New Leader Essentials
is taken prior to the specifics training sessions described below.)
New Leader Essentials is an introductory session that highlights the
values, aims, history, funding, and methods of Scouting. It addresses how
these aims and methods are reached in an age-appropriate style within Cub
Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing. Videos,
discussions, and hands-on reinforcement are presented during the 90-minute
training session.

Cub Scout Leader Specific Training Trained
Cub Scout leaders provide a quality, fun-filled program for boys. When
leaders understand the whys and hows of Cub Scouting, they are more
effective in their roles. Trained leaders know how to use the available
resources to provide an exciting and worthwhile program for the boys.
Trained leaders also have confidence in carrying out their roles and
responsibilities. As a result, Cub Scouts receive a program designed to
achieve Scouting's aims of citizenship training, character development, and
personal fitness.
Tiger Cub den leaders, Cub Scout den leaders, Webelos den leaders,
Cubmasters, and pack committee members can complete this training in about
three hours. The leader is considered trained upon completion of New Leader
Essentials and the Leader Specific Training for that position.
Prerequisite for this course is Cub Scout Leader Fast Start training.
Remember to bring your Cub Scout Leader book. The book can also be
purchased
at the training course. Additional
supplemental material will be handed out to enhance this learning
experience. No prior registration required.
