The High Peaks region of the Adirondack Park boasts the highest mountain peaks
in the state of New York. It is by far the most popular area in the Adirondacks
for backpacking and mountaineering. Forty-six of the mountains in the region
stand over 4,000 feet in elevation.
Group size for the below treks is limited to 7 persons plus the guide. This group size limitation
is due to New York Department of Environmental Conservation restrictions in this region of
the Adirondacks.
Johns Brook Valley
40 miles. 5 day trek. Start/end at the Garden in Keene Valley with base camps at Johns
Brook and Slant Rock. Ascend 9 High Peaks including: Big Slide, Lower Wolf
Jaw, Armstrong, Gothics, Basin, Saddleback, Marcy, Haystack. Ascents with
day packs only.
Transportation fee: $76.00 for 216 miles to/from Summit Base.
Tahawus
35 miles. 5 day trek. Start/end at Tahawus (Upper Works) in Newcomb.
Ascend 4 High Peaks including: Skylight, Marcy, Colden and Algonquin.
Transportation fee: $78.00 for 224 miles to/from Summit
Base
Keene Valley to Upper Works
40-50 miles. 5 day trek. Start at the Garden in Keene Valley, end at Tahaus (Upper
Works) in Newcomb. Ascend 11 High Peaks including: Big Slide, Lower
Wolfjaw, Upper Wolfjaw, Armstrong, Gothics, Haystack, Basin, Saddleback, Marcy ,
Skylight, Colden. Full pack ascent over Marcy.
Transportation fee: $77.00 for 220 miles to/from Summit
Base
Upper Works to Tarbell Rd (backpacking), Long Lake to Axton Landing
(canoe)
31 miles backpacking, ascend MacNaughton and Henderson mountains. 24 miles canoeing. One 1.5 mile carry. 5
day trek. Supply with canoes midweek.
Transportation fee: $134 (includes mid week transition to canoeing).
