COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal
Experience)
Project COPE
is a program developed to emphasize the importance of teamwork to succeed at
a common goal. Designed to test a group's ability to work together,
completing the course is also a personal success.
We are very proud of our course. Built in 1994, it boasts ten low
elements and a 30 foot high course which can provide a challenge to any age
group culminating with a 250 foot gravity stop zip line. Our staff has run a
BSA nationally accredited program since its inception.
Anyone may participate in the low elements but those wishing to
experience the high course must be 13 years of age.
The COPE course operates daily during the summer camp season (July
through mid-August). Scheduling is available prior the start of camp.
Spring and Fall
weekend programs are also available.
Spend Friday and Saturday night lodging at Read Scout Reservation with meals
provided. Our indoor climbing wall and nearby cliffs
on Stevens Mountain will also be available for use.

Climbing
Rock climbing was the original basis behind the development of Summit Base.
Today we offer two separate on-site climbing experiences:
Rock Climb
The "rocks" located next to Summit Base on the eastern side of
Little Stevens Mountain is a 40 foot cliff which has climbing routes of
varying ability levels as well as a rappel.
Indoor Wall
Our newly constructed 25 foot vertical, slab and overhang walls give you the
chance to experience gym style climbing under the protection of the Butler
Pavilion. Routes of varying nature are set by the staff; or build your own
route if you desire.
Participants will leave our program with an in-depth understanding of the
sport, a firm grasp on the fundamentals of equipment, technique and
safety. Our climbing programs are designed to increasingly challenge
our participants in response to their skill development. Continuous
reinforcement of the basics combined with the ability to provide challenging
experiences helps to develop confident climbers.
Climbing Merit Badge is offered during scheduled sessions during summer
camp and can be incorporated into a weekend program.

Zip Line
The zip line is a great way to spend a few hours literally 'chilling out'.
The 100 foot run from a 15 foot tower ends when you drop into the watery
depths of Lester Pond.
The zip line operates regularly during the summer camp season.
