Religious Emblem Completion Guidance

Religious Emblem Completion: The CS Emblem Counselor coordinates a Scout’s attendance at a Board of Review (B of R), and ensures the emblem application, found in the workbook, is fully completed, signed by each of the Scoutmaster, the Emblem Counselor and a Parish Priest, and brought by the Emblem Candidate to the B of R to assist in the assessment of a Scout’s preparedness.

  • Board of Review Registration - Scouts can attend any scheduled B of R individually or as a Troop. A Scout is to register when he/she arrives. Pope Pius XII candidates sit first so they may participate in a B of R for an Ad Altare Dei candidate who are otherwise taken on a first come basis.

  • Emblem Sunday - a Scout who satisfactorily completes a B of R will receive an invitation with Emblem Sunday specifics from the N.Y. Archdiocese’s CYO Office.

    Board of Review Registration: Religious Emblem Counselors need to register their Emblem Candidates for a February 2019 Board of Review in advance by January 31, 2019. Counselors should contact;

  • North County: St. Mary of Assumption Church 55 Valley Rd, Katonah NY 10536 in the school cafeteria on Friday February 8, 2019 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. Contact Site Coordinator - Chris Kristensen [Click for member's page]  or 917-939-5416.
  • Mid County Date: Church of St. Ann 25 Eastern Avenue Ossining, NY 10562 in the school Library on Saturday February 9, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Contact Site Coordinator – Dave Morrison  or 914-482-0037.
  • South County: Salesian High School at 148 East Main Street, New Rochelle, NY 10801 in the Multipurpose Room at the back of the School on Saturday February 23, 2019 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Contact Site Coordinator - Kathy Vajda [Click for member's page] or 914-906-0060.

    Board of Review Requirements: Candidates sitting for a B of R must complete and fully document work performed to satisfy emblem requirements as identified in the appropriate Religious Emblem Workbook and which is certified by the Religious Emblem Coordinator.

  • The Scout is to be in uniform, bring the completed Emblem Workbook, Application and supporting materials, signed by 1) the Scoutmaster acknowledging the Unit's support for the endeavor, 2) the Emblem Counselor certifying all requirements as presented in the Emblem Workbook have been accomplished, and 3) a Parish Priest to document the Parish's support forthe Religious Emblem process and to certify that the Emblem Counselor is a parishioner in good standing.
  • A Scout is to bring payment of $15.25 for the religious medal in cash or a check payable to CYO Scouting.
  • Emblem Counselors and Scouts who are previous Ad Altare Dei or Pope Pius XII recipients are requested to serve on Boards of Review for the specific location where they are scheduled to attend.

    Completion and Award Submission: Board of Review results will be submitted by the CS Scouting Committee. Pope Paul IV Quality Unit applications signed by the Unit’s COR or the Parish Pastor, and Adult Medal nomination signed by the Parish Pastor submissions are due by February 15, 2019 to the WPC Catholic Scouting Committee c/o Catholic Scouting’s Advisor Daniel Conniff - Fax 914-773-1411; E-mail [Click for member's page] ; Mail 41 Saw Mill River Hawthorne, NY 10532.

    Emblem Sunday:  Is scheduled for April 7, 2019. Registration is 1:00 PM in the International Building across Fifth Avenue from St. Patrick’s with Mass at 2:00 PM at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Candidates will receive a invitation letter from the N.Y. Archdiocese’s CYO Office in March that he/she will be presented with a Catholic Religious Emblem.

  • Emblem Sunday Color Guard and Ushers:Scout volunteers are needed to serve as members of the Color Guard or as Ushers. Provide Scout name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, and Unit and Church Affiliation at a B of R to Chris Kristensen, Dave Morrison, or Kathy Vadja.
    • Must be a Boy Scout, cannot be a current year recipient, and can be a past recipient, Troop/Crew member, or sibling.
    • Selected volunteers will be contacted by the CYO Office in March to confirm assigned responsibility with registration in the International Building at 12:30 PM.

  • Pope Paul VI Catholic Quality Unit Award: Visit the Catholic Scouting Home Page at Link for submission requirements. Click the Unit Recognition Tab and access the National Catholic Unit Excellence Award at Link , complete the application and have signed by the Pastor/Parish Priest/ Chartered Organization Representative.Requirements include being sponsored by a Catholic Institution, having 25% of the Catholic Scouts in the Unit having either achieved or working on a Catholic Religious Emblem, and having an annual religious award program component in the Unit’s Program.
  • Adult Religious Medal Nomination: Visit the Catholic Scouting Home Page at Link for the requirements for the Bronze Pelican or St. George Award, download the Adult Nomination Form from the Adult Recognition Tab, fully complete and obtain the signature of the Parish Pastor/Priest.
