St. George Award

The St. George Adult Recognition is for Adult Scouters, awarded at the diocesan level, and recognizes Scouters and non-Scouters, who have made significant and outstanding contributions to the spiritual development of Catholic youths through Scouting.

Award Criteria:

  • General Scouting achievements do not qualify a person to receive the St. George Emblem. BSA has district, council, regional and national awards for such recognition.
  • A Scouter does not earn the St. George Emblem but is recommended by another person by application, without the nominee’s knowledge, to the WPC CS Committee to determine if the nominee satisfies the criteria for this award and for submission to the NY Archdiocese Catholic Scouting for acceptance. Persons earning this Award will be notified by end of March with the specifics (date, time, logistics) of presentation on Emblem Sunday at St. Patrick's.
  • In the Archdiocese of New York, a nominee for the St. George Award must have received the Bronze Pelican emblem previously and attended the National Catholic Leadership Development Course during the past two years to be considered.
  • The emblem is presented at the Emblem Sunday Awards Recognition Ceremony at St. Patrick’s Cathedral usually the 4th Sunday in April or the 1st Sunday in May.
  • Deadline for nomination, signed by the nominee’s Parish Pastor to acknowledge the nominee is a Parishioner in good standing, is prior to February 28. The St. George Medal is purchased for the Nominee by the person submitting the nomination or the Scouter’s Unit.
  • The person nominating an adult and the nominee will be notified by the CS Committee during the month of March with specifics of Emblem Sunday at St. Patrick’s.
