Advancement Lottery Schedule
This lottery will occur June 15. All registrations for merit badges included in the lottery must be made before June 15.
The advancement reservation system will not be available from June 15, 7 p.m.
(ET) until June
15, 9 p.m. to allow for the lottery processing. The
activities, and camp account sections of the system will continue to be available during this time. On June
15, at 9 p.m., the
advancement system will reflect the results of the lottery.
Lottery Selection Process
The following describes the lottery process:
-The advancement system will be unavailable starting June 15 at 7 p.m.
-For a merit badge session (e.g. Climbing 9-10 a.m. in camp week 1) all the eligible* entries into the lottery will be retrieved.
-If the number of lottery entries doesn't fill the maximum class size (e.g. 10) all the entries will be registered for the class.
-If the number of lottery entries is more than the maximum class size a random computer lottery will occur choosing the maximum amount of
registrations for that session.
-Those entries who are not chosen will be put in a wait list in the order they were originally entered into the system.
-At the end of the lottery units will receive an email listing those lottery entries which were chosen for active registrations.
-The advancement reservation system will be available again June 15 at 9 p.m.
After the lottery, all the badges listed above will no longer be lottery badges. Remaining spaces can be reserved by any unit once the
system is available June 15 at 9 p.m. Once a badge fills entries can be made to a wait list.
If a cancellation is made to an active registration for a badge with a wait list, the first entry in the wait list will become an active
reservation and that unit will be notified of this via email.
Advancement registration limits
*Important Note: The system limits registration to six advancements per scout. This would not include wait list reservations or
lottery reservations. This limit is enforced when the lottery and wait list processing occurs. This will disqualify scouts
from lotteries or wait lists if they already have 6 registrations.
Example: John Smith is registered for 6 merit badges (not lotteries). He is also in the lottery for Climbing. When the
lottery processing occurs he will not be included as the lottery would (could) give him 6 registrations.
Example: Frank Smith is registered for 5 merit badges (not lotteries). He also in the lottery for Climbing and
Horsemanship. When the Climbing lottery processing occurs he will be included. He then
win a space in Climbing and now has 6 reservations. He would then not be included in the
Horsemanship lottery.
Thus, it is recommended that a unit carefully review their reservations and possibly delete non-lottery reservations from members who may be in
the situation above. These reservations could be re-added after the lottery June 15. Emails will be sent
prior to the lottery to units with
members in this situation.
If a unit believes that it is appropriate that a Scout be registered for more than
6 merit badges this can be discussed with camp staff leadership
upon arrival at camp and adjustments made where appropriate.
