Adirondack Area High Adventure Activities

Groups may travel into the Adirondack Park to take part in High Adventure activities at some of the most well-known sites in the Park; possibilities include rock climbing, bouldering, backpacking, canoeing and caving.

The hiking, climbing and caving group size is limited to ten participants. These programs can be registered for prior to camp by contacting our Activity coordinators. In the event that a group or time slot is not at full capacity at the start of camp, the spaces will be offered until Sunday night.  These programs are staffed by National Camp School certified Climbing as well as a certified guide.

Please see the summer trek personal gear list for recommended equipment for the hiking, climbing and caving programs (focus on backpacking needs).

Brant Lake Canoeing

Spend a day paddling on 6-mile long Brant Lake, eating lunch on the water. Transportation and canoes are available on a limited basis. Cost: flat charge of $30.00 for groups of up to 14 persons. Unit leadership must meet the BSA Standards for "Safety Afloat", publication #7368. Most of the shoreline of Brant Lake is private. Thus, put-in and pick-up locations are limited. Reservations must be made with the Camp Director at the time of the Leaders Meeting in the evening of the first day the unit is in camp.

Overnight Backpacking

Summit Base can help outfit your troop for an overnight (or longer) backpacking trip into the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness area. New York State Health Department rules apply. See below: Standards for Day or Overnight Hiking Trips Out of Camp for leadership requirements. Cost in 2018: Food, fresh or trail - $7 per person, per meal (trail food subject to availability, several months notice requested).  Reservations must be made with Summit Base as early as possibly. Bring your own tents, stoves, cooking equipment, etc.  Summit Base can also assist with securing necessary permits - these should be applied for at least a month prior to the planned trip.

Be sure to review Rules and Recommendations for Overnight Backpacking in the Guide to Safe Scouting.
