Information for Parents

What will my Scout do in Camp?

Your Scout will have an active, challenging and educational week or more at the Read Scout Reservation. Unless on a week-long trek, your Scout will be living in a two person canvas tent erected on a wooden platform. Cots and mattresses are provided for each tent, and the whole Troop stays in the same campsite.

Depending on age, activities may include white water rafting, caving, rock climbing, rappelling, a slide for life over water, horse back riding, and low and/or high ropes challenge course. In addition, your Scout will be working on Scouting advancement. Boys and girls attending the Read Scout Reservation for the first time often enroll in our First Year Camper Program. These are sessions designed to help new scouts learn basic Scouting skills and become familiar with the camp.  Read also offers over forty merit badges that are sure to challenge Scouts of any experience level.

Your Scout will also sleep. Lights out is at 10:00 each evening and boys start each day at 7:00 AM. In between, Scouts have the time of their lives in a tremendous setting with a caring, qualified staff.

Due to the sheer volume of phone calls which come into our camping office, often more than a hundred in an eight hour period, we ask that you attempt to use alternative methods of answering your questions before calling the Council Service Center. We cannot return every call in a timely matter.
