Summer Camp Staff Members Needed
We are actively recruiting staff members for the summer of 2008 at the Read
Scout Reservation. Youth who will be at least 14 as of July 1, 2008 are eligible
to participate in our three or seven week Counselor in Training Program. All
others who will be 15 or older as of July 1, 2008 are eligible to serve on the
finest camp staff in America.
What better way to spend a summer than in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains,
surrounded by friends and Scouts, while providing the finest camp experience
available? Positions exist for a wide variety of skills that include ecology,
handicraft, retail sales, food service, maintenance, health care, Scout skills,
aquatics, equestrian activities, shooting sports, first year camper instruction
and high adventure program delivery. The Read Staff is made up of about one
hundred people who typically range in ages from 15 to over 70.
Helping others is what life is all about. Be a part of helping 2,000 youth
have a great week of summer camp. Applications are available

New Camp Equipment and Facilities in 2008
The Executive Board of our Council has approved an influx of over
$1,000,000 into the Durland (formerly Clear Lake) and Read Scout
Reservations. The Properties and Maintenance Committee is working to ensure
that every dollar is used as wisely as possible. Planned projects include:
Read Scout Reservation • Replacement of the showers at Summit Base
• Construction of eight new camp site latrines
• Installation of ventilation fans in the Newton Dining Hall and a sound system
• Replacement of sheepherder stoves, monster boxes and picnic tables in Camp
Waubeeka
• Construction of wheel chair accessible ramps for the Waubeeka office and
trading post
• Purchase of matting to control weed growth in a section of the Buckskin lake
boating area
• Replacement of 200 cots
• Replacement of 150 mattresses
• Purchase of 100 wall tents and poles
• Construction of four new camp site leanto’s
Durland Scout Reservation • Replacement of the latrines near Sperling Center
• Construction of a low COPE course
• Replacement of the Kiah House
• Purchase of a new backhoe
The successful completion of these projects
depends heavily on the availability and skill of volunteer labor. To volunteer
