THE 29TH ANNUAL WILLIAM E. KELLY BOWL-O-REE TO SUPPORT SPECIAL NEEDS YOUTH
|
|
Executive Board Member Bill Kelly had the vision and desire twenty-nine years ago to organize a fundraiser to support youth with special needs. As a result of organizing each of the past twenty-eight Bowl-O-Rees, over a million dollars has been raised to support this initiative. Our in-school Champion’s program for youth with special needs is being offered to nearly 1,000 youth in the Yonkers and Mt. Vernon School Districts.
This year’s Bowl-O-Ree offers all Scouts in our Units to again enjoy a great bowling activity while raising needed funding for their unit and the Special Needs Program. This year’s Bowl-O-Ree plans are underway. The bowling locations and dates have been secured and Unit Sign-Up forms are available.

Thank you to all of the Units that participated in our Council annual food drive- Scouting for Food Good Turn. In these hard economic times, it is especially important that we teach our Scouts to help others in need.
As a Council we collected 15,481 items and had 90 units registered for the food drive.

Our Council Popcorn Fundraiser is coming to a close and the results are fantastic. 104 Westchester–Putnam Council Units participated in the sale, returning more than $190,000 to Unit treasuries. This is an outstanding average of more than $1,800 in commission being returned to each of our participating Units. In addition, Scouts earned great prizes and those who qualified will be invited to the Victory Party that will be held on January 28th at Sportime USA in Elmsford.
We also continue to be one of the nationwide leaders in Operation Popcorn, which sends popcorn to our armed services each year. This year, the Westchester-Putnam Council sent over $30,000 worth of popcorn to our troops!
