Summer Camp Leadership Registration Policy

Safety is the number one programmatic goal of the Westchester-Putnam Council.  We want all our members; youth and adults to be safe and have a good experience while Scouting.  The Boy Scouts of America values safety above all.  We emphasis the rules and policies in the Guide to Safe ScoutingExternal Link.  Many adults participate in Scouting from Leaders to Parents.  Scouting is a life changing program due to the excellent adults that we have working with the Scouts.  Camp is a place that many adults are needed to make sure that it is safe and fun.  The following requirements are to make sure that everyone youth and adult are protected.  These requirements are from the State of New York and the Boy Scouts of America.

 

  • At camp more than 72 hours (three nights) - Any adult (18 +) is required to be Registered with the BSA including a current Youth Protection CertificateExternal Link and must be cleared by the State of New York – Sex Offender Registry

  • At camp 12 to 47 hours (two nights) – Any adult (18+) is required to have a current BSA Youth Protection CertificateExternal Link and must be cleared by the State of New York – Sex Offender Registry

  • At camp under 12 hours (overnight) – Any adult (18+) is recommended to have a current BSA Youth Protection CertificateExternal Link and must be cleared by the State of New York – Sex Offender Registry

  •  Any adult (18+) that is having contact with Scouts is strongly recommended to take the Youth Protection CourseExternal Link
