Key-3 Letter - 2018 Council Budget

Westchester-Putnam Council Scouters,

Council Budget and some changes in 2018

As part of our preparation and planning for the year ahead, the officers and board have reviewed our program, staff, and finances resulting in a new balanced budget for 2018.  Where cost reductions were required, we sought to keep the youth we serve in mind and tried to minimize any negative impact.  The majority of our program will be delivered as we have in previous years.  However, the following are a few decisions that may impact your units:

I. Camp Read will be closed for the Winter

The camp will be closed between December and April.  Winter Weekend program like Ice Climbing, onsite stays for Ski Weekends will not be available.  The camp will remain open and available for use between April and November each year.

II. Reduction in staff

We will also be reorganizing the staff and a few positions will be eliminated within the council.  Unit Service and Program are a high priority and we will need to rely on more volunteers to help us with that part of our mission.

III. Introducing a WPC-BSA Gala Fundraising Event in April

We are going to host a Gala dinner event in April to recognize all our Eagle Scout mothers.  We are hoping to have several hundred attendees and would welcome any individuals that would like to help us organize, plan, and obtain sponsors for this event.

We are very excited about the Scouting year ahead and looking forward to working with all our fellow Scouters to provide the best experience possible for the youth we serve.

Council Staff and volunteers will be available to answer any questions during the upcoming January Roundtables.  Our Scout Executive - Rich Stockton is also available to answer questions.

Yours in Scouting,

Gordon Elliot, Council President
Josh Davies, Council Commissioner
Richard Stockton, Scout Executive
