Hudson Valley Honor Flight May 9, 2015

On May 9, 2015 our Mohican scouts and adult scouters participated in the Hudson Valley Honor Flight (HVHF) ceremony at Westchester County Airport.

Hudson Valley Honor Flight (HVHF) is a not-for-profit organization which “Honors American Veterans” for all their sacrifices.  HVHF transports these heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit their memorials at no cost to them.

At 7:30 AM, our scouts and scouters stood at the southern entrance of Westchester County Airport.  We lined up along Tower Road cheering on and welcoming World War II veterans as they entered the airport to leave on their Hudson Valley Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

I would like to express our gratitude to our District Commissioner, Kim Hord, for organizing our participation in this important ceremony.

I have attached a few pictures that were taken at the airport.

I want to thank the following units for participating in the event.  There may have been other units or scouts throughout our district (and our council) who participated but I was not aware of their presence.

  • ·         Troop 12 Yonkers
  • ·         Troop 24 Dobbs Ferry
  • ·         Troop 73 White Plains
  • ·         Pack 24 Dobbs Ferry
  • ·         Pack 67 Hartsdale

Troop 1 Valhalla met the Vets at Westchester Community College where they were boarding buses bound for Westchester County Airport.

All Mohican units dipped their troop flags and raised high their American flags when the buses, filled with veterans, passed.

Yours In Scouting,

Paxton J. Louis

Mohican District Chairman
