Family Friends of Scouting 2017

First, we want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU for your leadership in serving as a leader in our great Westchester-Putnam Council Scouting program!  With your hard work and dedication many young people are benefiting from the life changing experiences Scouting has to offer, and I am deeply grateful for all you do.

As many of you know, the Council recently decided to postpone the implementation of our “Council Participation Fee” until fiscal year 2017. The feedback that we received was the people were opposed mainly to the timing of this initiative not the concept behind it. While the imposition of a participation fee is not appealing this became necessitated by the fact that the Family Friends of Scouting campaign has not been successful these past few years.

In order to raise the necessary funds our Council will need to operate in 2016 and not charge a mandatory fee, we are asking unit leaders for their support in conducting our Family Friends of Scouting campaign. Our hope is to streamline the process, make it easier for you, and also decrease the amount of volunteer and staff hours involved so that we can dedicate more resources towards supporting and growing your program.

UNIT SELF PRESENTATION MANUAL

We understand that in person unit presentations, especially at the inopportune times of Courts of Honor and Blue & Gold Dinners, may not be the best fit for your unit.

So, we are offering a few different options for how you would like to conduct your campaign:

  1. Self-conducted presentation: we provide you with the materials and you make the presentation directly to your families. We will also support delivery and pickup of the pledge cards for your convenience
  2. Email campaign: utilizing templates provided by the Council, each unit will conduct an email campaign to families and direct them to an online donation page where they can make their pledge and designate credit to be applied towards your unit’s goal (please note that this option will also be available to units who elect to hold presentations as well)
    1. As an additional supplement to an email campaign, we have the ability to set up unique Unit or Community FOS Goal tracking webpages. You would be able to direct your families to a page which specifically talks about your program with the ability to edit content. It also features goal tracking and an honor roll of supporters. These pages will be set up on request. If you would like to utilize this option please contact me directly.
  3. Traditional in-person presentation: conducted by a district volunteer or a member of the Council professional staff.

We are also pleased to be offering the “Free Cabin Incentive” again this year. In order to receive a free cabin you will need to complete the following:

  1. Reach your unit goal which is calculated by ($34 per active Scout plus an additional 10%)
  2. Hold your presentation or conduct your email campaign prior to April 30, 2016
  3. All pledges paid in full by June 30, 2016

We will calculate all winners by July 15 and leaders of qualifying packs will receive notice. Units may also elect a $150 credit in the Scout Shop in lieu of a free weekend cabin rental.

We are really counting on your help and support in this effort.  As promised, we will continue to provide you with additional information about the council’s budget and finances.  Keep in mind, all this is done so we can collectively serve nearly 9,000 young people in Westchester and Putnam counties. Please make your unit commitment for Family Friends of Scouting today, and as always, feel free to contact me at any time to discuss this or any other Scouting matter.

Please contact your District Executive as soon as possible to let us know how you would like to proceed. If you are already filled out information at the charter turn-in day someone will be in contact with you.
