Hornaday Award Project Planning

It is important to understand the general process for earning a Hornaday award
before starting. Each project is to be at least the scope of an Eagle project or larger and must be sustained after the physical work is done. The process is the same for the Unit Award.

There are 11 steps in the Hornaday Award Process:

  1. Contact Hornaday Awards Council Coordinator
  2. Select a Conservation Advisor
  3. Research Project Ideas
  4. Develop a Unique and Significant Project
  5. Plan Project
  6. Conduct Project
  7. Project Write-Up
  8. Complete Addition Projects (for Bronze or Silver)
  9. Complete Application
  10. Review by Council Conservation Committee (and National Conservation Committee where applicable).
  11. Award Presented

The Council Hornaday Coordinator will provide contact information to the Scout for potential Hornaday Advisors to mentor and assist the scout. Contact the coordinator
